Naba Das Murder: Accused Cop Being Taken By Odisha CB To Gujarat For Narco Test
Jharsuguda: Dismissed police ASI Gopal Das, lone accused in Odisha Health Minister Naba Das’ murder, was being taken to Gujarat on Wednesday for narcoanalysis test as part of the investigation into the mysterious killing.
The Crime Branch officials, who are probing the high-profile murder case, will take the accused to Gandhinagar where he will undergo narco analysis test. Gopal was taken to Jharsuguda airport amid tight security for taking a flight for the purpose, sources said.
During the Narco test, also known as narcoanalysis test, sodium pentothal is injected into the person’s body. Also known as the ‘truth serum’, this injection transports the accused to a hypnotic state, sources said.
The JMFC court at Jharsuguda on Wednesday allowed the Crime Branch to conduct narco and polygraph tests on the dismissed police official.
The accused, who was produced before the court, gave his consent to undergo the twin tests.
The court also allowed the Crime Branch to take the accused on remand for five more days for further investigation in the case.
Initially, the court had allowed the Crime Branch to take the accused on remand for four days soon after his arrest. The court had extended the remand period for another four days on February 4. “The second remand period of Gopal Das ended today and the Crime Branch sought the court permission to take him on further remand for more investigation in the case.
It may be noted here that Gopal had fired at the Minister near Gandhi Chowk at Brajarajnagar in Jharsuguda district on January 29. The minister succumbed to injuries while being treated at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar the same evening.
