Scientists Stress On Climate Resilient Agriculture At Farmers’ Meet In Odisha’s Ganjam
Berhampur: Climate resilient agriculture was stressed at an interaction programme of scientists and farmers in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
Speaking at the concluding day of Udaan, a two-day community engagement programme hosted by Tata Steel Foundation, Keerthi Vasan V, Chief Development Officer-cum-Executive Officer of Ganjam Zilla Parishad advised for income generation initiatives to extract maximum benefit. He hoped that the farmers would step up their income manifold and enable the creation of a model for sustained growth.
Apart from sharing the stories, this year’s Udaan focused on building a culture of climate resilience through disaster risk reduction. Several successful farmers were felicitated on the occasion.
Ambika Prasad Nanda, Head, CSR, Odisha Tata Steel, said “The focus of the Foundation will be to build a culture of climate resilience while addressing the issues of disaster risk reduction in the periphery areas of Gopalpur. We will continue to engage with various stakeholders with the same focus for next five years.”
At the inaugural programme on February 23, as many as 298 meritorious students from economically backward SC/ST families were awarded with Jyoti Fellowship. Women SHG members and adolescent girls from periphery villages also came together to discuss issues related to climate resilience.
