Bhubaneswar: Doctors employed an advanced procedure to save the life of a seven-month-old boy, who had a peanut stuck in his trachea, at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital on Tuesday.
The baby, Ayush Rout from Boudh, had swallowed a peanut which got stuck in his trachea making it difficult for him to breathe, informed SUM ENT Department Head, Dr Santosh Kumar Swain.
“We performed bronchoscopy, a non-invasive life-saving procedure on Ayush to retrieve the peanut and the baby is recovering well. The procedure took about one hour.” he said.
The family members had rushed the baby to the local hospital at Boudh and then took him to several other hospitals where the required treatment could not be provided.
A team comprising Dr Swain, Dr S. Pani and anaesthetist, Dr Rohan Nayak performed the procedure.
