Bengaluru: India will soon get its first post office to be built using 3D printing technology.
Construction is underway for the first-of-its-kind building in the Karnataka capital, at Cambridge Layout, Ulsoor.
The 3D printed post office, which is being constructed by Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T), will cost around Rs 23 lakh – 30 to 40% less than the cost of building a standard post office.
And it will be completed in just 30 days!
The post office will be built on an area of 1,100 square feet and will perform all services.
The idea was floated in August 2022, but it took seven months to get the project up and running.
Work got underway in the last week of March and it was only after a local resident posted a video of the 3D printing building activity on social media that people took interest.
“Look Mom, they’re 3D printing a structure outside my house!” she tweeted along with videos and pictures of the construction activity. She added that the noise levels are “bare minimum.”
Biocon Executive Chairman Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw was among numerous users whose attention was drawn by the post.
“Country’s first 3D-printed post office going up in Bengaluru — hope this is the shape of things to come!!” tweeted the biotech giant’s boss.
“While the basic structure is expected to be completed in 15 days, the construction of the whole building will take about a month. However, we have not asked the builders to rush the construction,” Kiran stated.
