8-Year-Old Girl Dies As Smartphone Explodes
Thrissur: The little girl was doing what most children do – watching a video on her parent’s phone.
Little did she – or anyone else around her — know what was coming.
The smartphone suddenly exploded in her hand, taking away the life of Adithyashree, a class III student.
“The child suffered severe injuries on her face. Her fingers on her right hand got severed and her palm was broken in the impact,” onmanorama.com quoted a police officer as saying.
Police suspect overheating of the battery may have led to the explosion as the child was exposed to the phone for a long time.
Some reports have claimed that it was a Redmi phone which exploded. Police, however, are yet to confirm the phone brand.
Police are investigating the incident. More details will emerge after the forensic team submits its report.
This is not the first time mobile explosions have caused deaths.
Earlier this week, a boy in Uttar Pradesh died because of electric shock while charging his mobile phone.
Experts constantly advise against using a mobile phone while charging, as it generates additional heat.
Overheating can lead to permanent damage to the battery, reduce its lifespan, and even cause the phone to explode or catch fire.
