Odisha To Experience Rise & Fall In Rainfall Activity In Next 5 Days; Check IMD Forecast

Bhubaneswar: Even as coastal districts of Odisha experience incessant rains on Tuesday morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy downpour at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri till Wednesday morning.

While there is warning for thunderstorm with lighting for several places with light to moderate rain across the state for next two days, heavy rain will lash South and North districts again from July 14 with little change in the forecast for subsequent two days, according to the midday bulletin.

The MeT office further tweeted: “Seasonal cumulative rainfall realised between June 1 and July 11 is 232.7mm against its normal value of 314mm. During the period, one district was in the large deficient category, 17 districts in deficient, 1 in excess and rest 11 districts were in the normal category.”

This is a deficit of 25.8%. A day earlier, the IMD had informed about 27% shortfall during the monsoon season since June 1.

While Odisha normally experiences monsoon rains from June 11 to September 30, the onset was declared in the state on June 22, 2023 and its progress has been slow after an initial heavy falls.
