Angry Over Frequent Power Outage, Villagers Block Banki-Cuttack Road In Odisha
Cuttack: Angry over frequent power outage in the area, residents of Harirajpur village in Banki area in Odisha’s Cuttack district staged a demonstration on Thursday demanding immediate steps to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply.
A large number of slogan-shouting villagers holding banners and placards took to the streets against frequent unscheduled power outage and low voltage.
Fed up with erratic power supply, the protesters staged a road blockade on the Banki-Cuttack main road by burning tyres, shouting slogans against the administration, and staging a sit-in on the main road.
Vehicular movement on the road was disrupted for several hours due to the blockade, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded on both sides of the road.
The protesters claimed that despite their complaints with the Energy department, their grievances were ignored by the authorities. Left with no other option, they resorted to staging the road blockade to draw attention to their plight.
However, after engaging in discussions with the police and concerned officials, the villagers eventually decided to withdraw their protest.
During the discussions, representatives from the Energy Department acknowledged that the power cuts were the result of technical issues. They reassured the villagers that the problems would be addressed promptly.
