Aligarh Muslim University Student Arrested For Promoting ISIS Agenda

Lucknow: There have been reports and intel inputs of ISIS terror modules operating in different parts of the country.

In its continuing effort to crack down on the dreaded outfit, National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday arrested a 19-year-old terror operative, who happens to be a student of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

The investigative agency nabbed Faizan Ansari after conducting searches at his house in Jharkhand’s Lohardaga district and one-room rented accommodation in UP’s Aligarh.

The searches were conducted on July 16 and 17, when officials found several electronic devices and incriminating documents.

According to NIA, Faizan and his associates hatched a criminal conspiracy through a social media platform to support ISIS activities in India, aimed at carrying out “violent terror attacks”.

Faizan was also allegedly actively involved in radicalising neo-converts and attracting them to the terrorist fold for “enriching the cadre base of ISIS in India.

He was in contact with foreign-based ISIS handlers, who were guiding him in the recruitment process, officials said.

A case against him was registered on July 19 under relevant sections of IPC and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
