Depression Over Bay Of Bengal To Trigger Very Heavy Rain In Odisha; Check Wind Warning

Bhubaneswar: The intensity of rain is likely to increase in Odisha from Tuesday with the well-marked low pressure area over central parts of North Bay of Bengal having intensified into a Depression and the probability of the system turning into Deep Depression.

“A depression has formed over Northeast Bay of Bengal at 5.30 am today, about 200 km southeast of Khepupara (Bangladesh) and 430 km east-southeast of Digha (West Bengal). The system may intensify further into a Deep Depression and move north-westwards and cross Bangladesh coast near Khepupara around this evening,” the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed in its morning bulletin.

Thereafter, it is very likely to move west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal during the subsequent 24 hours, it added.

WIND WARNING

Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is prevailing over North & adjoining Central Bay of Bengal and along & off Bangladesh-West Bengal coasts and 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is prevailing along & off North Odisha coast. It is likely to increase and become 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph over North & adjoining Central Bay of Bengal and along & off West Bengal- Bangladesh coasts during next 12 hours and 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph along & off North Odisha coast during the same period. Thereafter, the same wind speed would continue over the above regions for subsequent 12 hours and decrease thereafter.

SEA CONDITION

Rough to very rough sea condition is very likely to prevail over North & adjoining Central Bay of Bengal and along & off Bangladesh-West Bengal-North Odisha coasts till forenoon of August 2.

The IMD had earlier issued orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall for isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Sundargarh, Cuttack, and Balasore on Tuesday (August 1). Yellow warning of heavy rainfall has also been issued for one or two places in Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Balangir and Nuapada districts.

During the subsequent 24 hours (August 2), heavy to very heavy rain is likely to lash isolated places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Samablpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Kandhamal. Heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Balsore, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Nabarangpur.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely to occur at most places across the state on these days.

While there is no further orange warning, one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Balangir, Nuapada and Mayurbhanj are likely to experience heavy rain on August 3.

There is no more heavy rain warning for Odisha during the subsequent 3 days. However, light to moderate rain or thundershower may occur at many places in North Odisha and at a few places in southern districts of the state on August 4.
