Asia Cup: To Avoid Another Washout, Only India-Pak Super 4 Clash To Have Reserve Day
Colombo: The importance of an India versus Pakistan cricket clash was underlined once again as a reserve day has been earmarked for their Asia Cup Super-4 duel scheduled on Sunday.
It’s been raining in Colombo over the last few days and more wet weather has been forecast during next 10 days.
The India-Pakistan group league match, at Pallekele on September 2, was washed out without a ball being bowled in the Pakistan innings. Hence, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has added a reserve day for Round 2 of the blockbuster fixture.
In case of rain interruption on September 10 at the R. Premadasa Stadium, the match will continue on the next day.
“A reserve day has been incorporated for the Super11 Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match between India vs Pakistan scheduled to take place on 10th September 2023 at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo. If adverse weather suspends play during the India vs Pakistan game, the match will continue on 11th September 2023 from the point it was suspended. In such an eventuality, ticket-holders are advised to hold on to their match tickets which will remain valid and will be utilised for the reserve day,” said ACC’s statement.
Be it the World Cup or Asia Cup, an India versus Pakistan match is inevitably the marquee clash as demand for ticket hit the sky.
Despite the India versus Sri Lanka game being scheduled on September 12, the organisers have kept September 11 as reserve day for the marquee match. ACC obviously is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a result is obtained, unlike on September 2.
ACC hasn’t kept a reserve for any of the other Super 4 games.
According to The Weather Channel’s 10-day forecast for Colombo, there’s a high chance of thunderstorms, with rain probabilities ranging from 60% to 100%.
