Intense Rain To Drench Odisha’s Twin Cities This Afternoon; Orange & Yellow Alerts For 24 Dists

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has been experiencing intense spells of rain since Wednesday morning under the influence of a low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal adjoining West Bengal-Odisha coasts.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange warning of moderate rain/thundershowers with one or two intense spells of rain at 12 districts of the state, including twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, till 4.35 pm. The districts that are likely to be affected are Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Dhenkanal, Angul, Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Ganjam and Sundargarh.

The wether agency has warned of waterlogging in low-lying areas and occasional poor visibility and traffic disruption in urban areas.

It has also issued yellow warning of light to moderate rain/thundershower for some places in Sambalpur, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Deogarh, Sonepur, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Bargarh, Jharsuguda and Jajpur. People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
