Case Against More Than 100 People For Vandalising Police Station In Odisha’s Bargarh

Bargarh: A day after a mob ransacked Ambabhona police station, Bargarh SP Prahlad Sahai Meena on Monday said that a case has been registered against more than 100 people on the basis of CCTV footage and strict action will be initiated against those involved in the incident.

A group of a group of mostly youths went on a rampage, causing extensive damage to the police station, following a raid conducted on a picnic party at Tamdei, on the Mahanadi riverbank, over alleged use of ganja, on Sunday. Though police didn’t find anything during the operation, an altercation ensued between the group and police, which then left the area. The enraged youths allegedly stormed the police station in the evening and broke tables, chairs, windowpanes and computer before fleeing.

The SP said that the IIC had received inputs from sources about drugs being carried in a vehicle from Bargarh to Ambabhona. “They chased the vehicle and checked it at Tamdei. However, they didn’t find anything from the spot. The mob smashed furniture, CCTV cameras and some other articles in the police station. We are trying to retrieved the available CCTV footage and further investigation is on,” he added.

Meanwhile, state BJP president Manmohan Samal has demanded arrest of BJD MLA Susanta Singh, alleging that he was at the spot when his supporters vandalised the police station.
