Odia Officer Plays Key Role In Week-Long Income Tax Raids Against Congress MP’s Liquor Business

Bhubaneswar: As the Income Tax department made the country’s highest cash seizure of over Rs 351 crore during raids against Odisha-based distillery group of Congress MP Dhiraj Sahu’s family, an Odia officer played a significant role in the entire operation.

Not many in the state are aware that senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Hruday Kumar Das, who played a key role in the week-long raids at multiple locations, hails from Odisha’s Kendrapada district.

Das, who was actively associated with the searched carried out by as many as 24 I-T teams, comes from an ordinary family of Anguli village in Marsaghai block of Kendrapada, sources said.

Recalling the performance of Das as a student, residents of his village said that apart from excelling in studies, he also happened to be a very good cricket player. He represented had Kendrapada district in cricket tournaments.

After completing Plus II from Marsaghai College, Das did MCA from Utkal University and then prepared for the civil services. He was selected for IRS in his third attempt in the examination conducted by the UPSC, they said.

“We are proud that he has earned name and fame. He is holding an important position and discharging his duty with dedication,” said a villager.
