Mumbai: Fans of Deepika Padukone and Hrithik Roshan are waiting with bated breath for ‘Fighter’, which hits the theatres on January 25.

The trailer and teasers have showcased Deepika and Hrithik’s sizzling chemistry, and whetted their appetite for the Siddharth Anand-directed film, which also features Anil Kapoor and Ashutosh Rana in key roles.

Considered to be India’s first ‘aerial action drama’, ‘Fighter’ has not been taken well by those across the border from what they have seen so far.

Going by the reactions in the press and social media, our neighbours have dubbed the film ‘anti-Pakistan’ – not just by the public but by celebrities like Hania Aamir and Adnan Siddiqui as well.

So much so that the ‘Fighter’ team addressed those concerns in a group interview recently.

Siddharth clarified that the film is based on a true incident, which is already public knowledge, and he has tried to depict what actually happened without adding anything.

The director urged those feeling offended by the trailer to watch the full film for a complete understanding of the context.

“When it comes to the trailer, you do put out a few lines. You cannot play out the whole film. Then why will you go to the theatre? You do raise some questions, some sparks so that people can come and watch the film. Hence, our trailer has serviced exactly that motive. So, in a way, I am happy it’s done that. It’s made them inquisitive, and I would tell them to come to theatres, and all your questions would be answered. You will understand the content and emotions behind it,” said Siddharth.

The ‘Pathaan’ director claimed that his latest film is against terrorism, and not another country.

“That’s what our film stands for, to fight against terrorism. We have emphasised the same through ‘Fighter’ and once you see it, you will understand,” he said.

On some people’s observation that ‘Fighter’ is jingoistic to cater to the emotions of masses, Sidharth said: “I think I would call it more nationalistic than jingoistic. Some things are just being taken out of context.”
