Berhampur: A Special Vigilance court has sentenced a former data entry operator to 1 year of rigorous imprisonment in a bribe case in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
The Vigilance had arrested the convict, Samir Kumar Pattanayak working in the office of block education officer in Jagannathprasad of the district for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant to make an online entry of bills for purchase of utensils and other expenses related to Mid-Day Meal programme.
After investigation, the Vigilance had filed the charge sheet in the court. After hearing the case, the Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur sentenced Pattanayak to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for 1 year and imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 on him under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988. In default of payment of the fine, the court ordered him to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 2 months.
The court further sentenced him to undergo RI for 1 year and imposed a fine of Rs 2,000. and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 1 month more for the offence under Section 7 of PC Act, 1988. Both the sentences will run concurrently.
