Severe Heatwave & Warm Night Condition Persist In Odisha, Check Temp By 2.30PM

Bhubaneswar: Heatwave conditions may continue to prevail in Odisha till June 3 amid thunderstorm activity, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Friday.

Orange warning of severe heatwave and warm night conditions has been issued for one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Sonepur, Kandhamal, and Boudh districts on Friday (May 31). Heatwave may also prevail at one or two places in Bargarh, Sundargarh, Nuapada and Malkangiri while hot and humid condition is likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Keonjhar.

There is also a warning for thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph for one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts.

On June 1, severe heatwave and warm night condition may persist at one or two places in Balangir, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, and Sonepur. Heatwave warning has also been sounded for one or two places in Nuapada, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Boudh, and Kandhamal. Hot and humid weather condition is also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Keonjhar.

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph can also be expected at one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Dhenkanal.

The intensity of heatwave is likely to decrease thereafter.

The weather agency has issued yellow warning of heatwave for one or two places in Nuapada, Balangir, Boudh, and Sonepur on June 2. Hot and humid weather condition may also prevail at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati. Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph mat occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.

Some places in the state – Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati – may continue experience hot and humid weather condition on June 3-4.

Thunderstorm with lightning may also occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Sundargarh, Rayagada, and Kalahandi on June 3 and in Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri on June 4.

While there is no weather warning thereafter, the day temperature is likely to fall by 2-3 degree Celsius at many places in the state after two days, it added.

On May 30, Jharsuguda witnessed the season’s highest temperature at 47 degrees Celsius, becoming the hottest place in the state, while the mercury soared past 45 degrees Celsius at nine weather stations on Thursday. Seventeen places in the state also recorded a night temperature of more than 29 degree Celsius.
