Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: Email From WB’s Health Secretary Seeking Dialogue Is ‘Humiliating’, Say Protesting Doctors

New Delhi: Junior doctors have described as ‘humiliating’, the mail sent to them by the West Bengal government seeking to hold talks with them. Notably, junior doctors on Tuesday continued their protest against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata in defiance of a Supreme Court order to join duty.

According to doctors, they received an email from the Health Secretary of West Bengal. They said that the official sending the mail to them was “humiliating” as one of their five demands included the removal of the Health Secretary, the DME and the DHS in the state.

“We are always open for communication but the Health Secretary sending mail is very humiliating for us. We feel that there is no scope for communication,” the doctors said during a media interaction on Tuesday.

They also pointed out that the e-mail was not received from the Chief Minister’s office, saying if that happens, they “would definitely decide on whether to go or not”.
