Teenager Gangraped, Robbed During Navratri Celebration in Gujarat

Ahmedabad: A teenage girl was allegedly raped by three persons when she was out with a friend during the ongoing Navratri festival in Surat district of Gujarat.

According to police, the 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted at around 11 pm on Thursday. The incident occurred on Mota Borsara’s outskirts in Mangrol Taluka under the Kosamba police station, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Hitesh Joysar said.

The girl met her friends after finishing her coaching classes at around 10.30 pm. She and her two friends had ice cream. Finally, she and her male friends were sitting in a deserted place near Mota Borsara village when three people approached them. They grabbed the girl and started sexually assaulting her. Her friend meanwhile managed to escape and informed the nearby villagers, who alerted the police about the incident. The villagers reached the spot in less than half an hour, but the accused had escaped. According to the police, the trio raped the girl, and they also robbed her and her friend’s phones.

Senior police officials, including Range IG and Superintendent of Police, visited the crime scene. More than ten teams have been formed to investigate the case. A dog squad and forensic teams have also been engaged to gather evidence. An FIR has been registered under sections 70-b (gangrape of woman under 18), 115-B (voluntarily causing hurt), 54 (abettor present when offence is committed), and 309-4 (causing hurt in robbery attempt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
