Bhubaneswar: With the announcement of student union elections in the state, the Odisha Police on Tuesday said necessary steps are being taken steps to ensure that the entire exercise is held in a smooth and peaceful manner.
Stressing that the force is fully prepared for the student union polls, Director General of Police (DGP) Vinaytosh Mishra expressed confidence that the campus elections will be held peacefully in a spirit of harmony and brotherhood.
Strict instructions have been issued to Superintendents of Police (SPs) of all districts to maintain a close watch on non-students and prevent any external interference in the election process, the DGP said while speaking at the inauguration of the 71st State Police Duty Meet in Kataka.
Cautioning against involvement of outsiders and non-students in the campus elections, Mishra said it is observed that student union elections can be held peacefully if there is no interference from outsiders.
Stating that unruly students should be counselled and guided back to the right path, he said the absence of external interference is key to ensuring orderly and peaceful elections across campuses in the state.
The police chief further stated that a video conference with all district SPs will be held to review security arrangements in college campuses.
