Odisha Govt To Bring New Guidelines To Curb Obscenity In Jatra Shows: Minister
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is all set to issue new guidelines to put a blanket ban on obscene dance during Jatra shows in the state.
Announcing this, Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj told reporters that the government will put an end to distortion of Odia culture through obscenity by some jatra troupes.
Noting that jatra is normally watched and enjoyed by people along with family members, the Minister said it is observed that a new trend has emerged that distorts the cultural values and traditions of Odisha.
Therefore, it is essential to strictly enforce the guidelines laid down for various cultural events, he said, adding that the Law Minister has already shared his views on this issue.
The Culture department will offer full cooperation to the Law department to implement these measures to curb vulgarity in jatra performances and similar other programmes.
Noting that only jatra troupe owners and organisers should not be blamed for vulgarity, the Minister said the audience also plays a major role in promoting this trend. Therefore, everyone must work together to put an end to obscenity during such programmes, he said.
