ED To Probe Foreign Funding Source Of Good News India
Bhubaneswar: Amid allegations of sexual harassment of minor girls at a shelter home on the outskirts of Dhenkanal town, the State Enforcement Directorate (ED) will probe the foreign funding source of Good News India, the NGO which operated it.
Taking to media on Friday, ED joint director said financial transaction of the NGO and the sources and the amount of foreign funding will be investigated.
The ED has sought details of the complaints lodged against the NGO and the chargesheet filed against it from Dhenkanal Sadar Police, he said.
It may be mentioned here that Dhenkanal SP Santosh Nayak, in a briefing to the media on December 5, had said that the police had verified the documents of Good News India regarding central registration for overseas funding and checked other documents related to the utilization certificate, the audit report and the filing of Income Tax returns.
“The NGO receives overseas fund to the tune of Rs 15-Rs 16 crore every year and utilizes it for maintenance of the shelter homes, construction of new shelter homes and purchase of land in Odisha to set up its infrastructure. The annual audit report related to the collection of fund received from local and overseas sources and the expenditure of the NGO is prepared by a chartered accountant Firm in Kolkata,” the SP had pointed out.
