Mumbai: Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole on Monday reportedly denied media reports claiming that he had resigned from the Congress party’s top post in Maharashtra after the Maha Vikas Aghadi’s (MVA) poll debacle in the recently concluded state Assembly polls.
“I am going to meet Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, I have not given my resignation,” Patole said, as quoted by the News 18. His statement comes hours after multiple reports surfaced in the media about his resignation.
The incumbent Mahayuti—comprising BJP and its allies— registered a comprehensive victory in the Maharashtra elections, securing 235 seats, leaving the MVA trailing with only 46 seats.
According to reports, Nana Patole’s resignation hadn’t been accepted by the party high command yet. Congress had won just 16 seats out of the 103 seats it contested. Nana Patole, who was fielded by the party from the Sakoli seat, won the seat by only 208 votes.
Patole, a former MP, took over as the state president of Maharashtra Congress in 2021, succeeding Balasaheb Thorat.
Under his leadership, the Congress achieved a remarkable result in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as it secured 13 out of the 17 seats it contested.
“People are discussing how the Mahayuti could manage such a big win. They are confused. We do not want to comment or talk about EVMs, and it is the need of the hour to find out how it all happened, and accordingly, the Congress take necessary steps,” Patole had said, as quoted by TOI.
