Fact Check: Did Bengal Governor Ananda Bose Unveil His Own Statue At Raj Bhawan?

Kolkata: CV Ananda Bose has been involved in multiple controversies and had several run-ins with the West Bengal government since taking charge as Governor.

The latest row is quite bizarre. It’s about Bose unveiling his own statue.

No sooner had a photo of the statue surfaced online than a political controversy erupted.

The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) was quick to slam the Governor, calling him a megalomaniac.

“Post independence India never seen such preposterous event. One person appointed to a constitutional post is acting like a Roman Emperor. Megalomaniac,” Trinamool spokesperson Jayprakash Majumder said in his post on X.

CPI(M) leader Sujan Chakraborty also criticised Bose for unveiling his own statue.

The Governor’s office, however, denied that he had unveiled his statue, saying that it was presented to Bose by a sculptor.

“Many artists submit their artistic creations to HG. Many painters made HG’s portraits and presented to him. Similarly, a creative sculptor had created a sculpture of HG and presented to HG. This has unfortunately been described as ‘unveiling his own statue’,” Raj Bhawan’s media cell said in post on X.

The statue was ‘unveiled’ as part of the celebration marking two years in office for the Governor.

A painting exhibition and drawing competition was also held at Raj Bhawan for school students.
