Baripada: Facing difficulties in preparing for the annual Matriculation examination, which is hardly three months away, in the absence of an English teachers, Class X students of a school in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district walked 10 km to meet tehsildar to take up the issue.
According to sources, the post of English teacher in the Kamali Ashram School in Khunta of the district has not been filled up for a long time. Though the students have appealed to the district education authorities several times, no remedial measure has been taken yet.
The Board of Secondary Education has already announced the schedule the annual High School Certificate (HSC) examination for 2025. As per the schedule, the examinations will begin on February 21 and end on March 6.
Finding it tough to prepare for the important examination, the Class X students of the school decided to take up the matter upon themselves. Braving a wintry morning, a group of students left Khunta at 4 am and walked 10 km to the tehsildar’s office.
On reaching there, they submitted a memorandum, addressed to the tehsildar, seeking appointment of an English teacher urgently. They also complained about poor quality food being served to them in their hostel and sought remedial measures.
