Bhubaneswar: After untimely rains for two consecutive days last week, Odisha is likely to experience heavy showers again for two days as the well-marked low pressure area over Southwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal is expected to reach southwest Bay of Bengal near north Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh coasts around Tuesday.
“The system currently persists over Southwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal off South Andhra Pradesh-North Tamil Nadu coasts. It is likely to move west-southwestwards and reach southwest Bay of Bengal near north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts on December 24,” the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Monday.
The weather agency has also forecast a gradual fall in the night temperature by 2-4 degree Celsius during the next 2 days.
According to IMD, light to moderate rain may resume at many places in South Coastal Odisha & at one or two places in North Coastal Odisha. Shallow to moderate fog is also likely at one or two places in Kandhamal, Raygada, Koraput, Balangir, Bargarh and Sonepur districts.
The intensity of downpour will increase on December 24 with heavy rain forecast for Gajapati, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada and Koraput districts. Light to moderate rain may also occur at a few places in Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurda, Puri, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur and at one or two places in Balasore, Boudh, Jajpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Kandhamal , Kalahandi, Koraput and Malkangiri districts.
Heavy rainfall may continue at one or two places in Gajapati and Ganjam districts on December 25. Light to moderate rain is also likely at one or two places in Coastal Odisha.
Dry weather may prevail across the state thereafter, it added.
