Season’s Coldest Day In Bhubaneswar, Mercury Dips Below 10 Deg C At 16 Other Places

Bhubaneswar: Odisha capital experienced the coldest day of the season as the mercury plummeted to 9.5 degree Celsius, a low after a gap of 12 years, on Saturday. It was 9.9 degree Celsius a day before the Christmas.

The city had recorded 9.1 degree Celsius in 1996 and the lowest-ever 8.6 degree Celsius in 1992.

With cold wave sweeping the state, the temperature dipped below 10 degree Celsius at 17 places on Saturday.

Apart from Daringbadi in Kandhamal district which recorded the lowest of 6 degree Celsius, temperature remained below 10 degrees in Balasore (8.5), Cuttack (9.4), Bhubaneswar (9.5), Angul (6.6), Baripada (8.5), Jharsuguda (7.7), Keonjhar (6.9), Sambalpur (8.1), Sundargarh (7), Hirakud (9.3), Talcher (9.3), Bhawanipatna (9.5), Balangir (8.5), Koraput (8.6), Phulbani (7) and Sonepur (7).

There are reports of snowflake-like frozen dew drops in Daringbadi in Kandhamal district, Koida and Bonai in Sundargarh district and Harabhanga in Boudh district.

Talking to mediapersons on Saturday, duty officer of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Laxmidhar Mohapatra said that the cold wave condition will further intensify in Odisha and continue till January 1. The night temperature will come down to about 4 degree Celsius in Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Balasore and Mayurbhanj district while it will slump to 1-2 degree Celsius in the coastal region.
