Bengaluru: The “work-on-the-go” idea of a woman in Bengaluru backfired and she was slapped with a fine of Rs 1,000 for reckless driving.

She was filmed using her laptop while driving and the video soon went viral, prompting police to act. She was tracked down, penalised and given a clear message: Work from home or the office, not while driving!

The incident came to light when Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic, North Division) posted a video showing the woman using her laptop while driving on a busy road.

The DCP also shared an image of the woman, with her face blurred for privacy, while being fined.

“Since her residential address was within our jurisdiction, we issued a notice asking her to appear before us. She visited the station on Wednesday, where we showed her the viral video from X and explained how dangerous her actions were for both herself and other commuters,” a police official told The Times of India,

The woman, who resides in RT Nagar and works for a private company located in BTM Layout, admitted that she logged in for work as she did not expect to reach home soon enough, the report added.

Meanwhile, the incident sparked a debate on work pressure on social media.

“When main roads turn into parking lots due to poor urban planning, people are left with no choice when they get delayed on their way to work,” an user commented.

Another user demanded accountability from the employer, stating, “Her company’s name should be disclosed, and an FIR filed against the CEO and manager. CEOs bragging about 90-hour workweeks force employees into meaningless meetings and deadlines.”

“Yesterday it took 2 hrs for 17 kms one way, 4 hrs in road, need to complete the work, also need to take care of family… public transportation is fully loaded,, on top of this many CEOs are talking about 70 hrs per week, when to sleep, when to eat , I’m not justifying, but forced,” another noted.

An individual shared, “Working while driving some big company CEOs will be happy. Bad trend.”

“This will continue more in future due to employer pressure or might be those feature called ADAS, automatic whatever available but this is not encouraged,” another user said.
