Bhubaneswar: A youth died after a bus of a private university dashed against his scooter in Ghatikia area of Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
Sources said the mishap took place when the youth was riding the scooter on Ghatikia road and the bus rammed into his two-wheeler from behind.
The deceased has been identified as Soumya Ranjan Sahu, a resident of Paikraipur. While the youth reportedly died on the spot, the driver of the bus fled the scene along with the vehicle.
Following the accident, irate locals blocked the roads and staged a protest demanding adequate compensation for the family of the deceased youth.
On being informed, a police team reached the spot and sent the body for post mortem. The police tried to bring the situation under control by pacifying the protesters. The road blockade was cleared after over four hours.
As tension prevailed in the area, four platoons of police force were deployed to maintain peace and prevent any further escalation.
