Mumbai: Even as Mumbai Police sent Kunal Kamra a second summons for his ‘traitor’ jibe against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, the comedian showed his defiance with another satirical post.
Kamra on Wednesday reposted the video of his parody song ‘Hawa Hawai’, targeting Union Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
The satirical take on the popular song from the 1987 superhit film ‘Mr India’ was part of the comedy special that was recorded at the Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai’s Khar about a month ago and posted by Kamra on YouTube on March 23.
Kamra reposted the song on Wednesday with popcorn emojis, thus taking a dig at the controversy late last year over varying rates of GST levied on the much-loved snack at movie theatres.
Poking fun at the government over potholes, digging up of roads for Metro construction and bridge collapses, Kamra states corporate employees pay higher taxes than the corporations they work for, and shifts focus to Sitharaman, whom he referred to as “sariwaali didi” and “Nirmala tai”.

Mumbai Police had summoned Kamra on Tuesday, but the comedian sought a week’s time to appear. Police turned down his request and issued another summons to Kamra on Wednesday.
Even after the first summons, the comedian appeared defiant as he posted a video with shots of Shiv Sena workers vandalising Habitat Comedy Club with another satirical song from his comedy special.
He changed the words of ‘Hum Honge Kamyaab’ (we shall overcome) to ‘Hum Honge Kangaal’ (we will be bankrupt), and superimposed shots of Sena workers throwing chairs.
