New Delhi: India strongly condemned Pakistan’s ceasefire violations across the northern and western border states, just hours after an agreement was reached to stop all firing and military action on land, in the air and sea with effect from 5 pm on Saturday.
Taking note of the cross-border drone activity and shelling by Pakistan from around 8 pm, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri made India’s position clear in a video message on Saturday night..
“For the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding reached earlier this evening between the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan. This is a breach of the understanding agreed upon earlier today.”
He added that the Armed forces are giving an “adequate and appropriate response” to these violations.
“We take these violations very seriously. We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address them and to deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility,” Misri said.
The Armed forces are maintaining a “strong vigil” in the border states.
“They have been given instructions to deal strongly with any instances of repetition of the violations of the border along the International Border as well as the Line of Control,” Misri said.
Earlier this evening, Misri confirmed the ceasefire agreement after Pakistan initiated talks with their DGMO calling his Indian counterpart.
US President Donald Trump was the first to announce the India-Pakistan ceasefire, mediated by the United States.
