Balasore: A probe was ordered a day after a woman delivered a baby boy at Balasore district headquarters hospital (DHH) though her ultrasound scans indicated a twin pregnancy.
Chief district medical officer (CDMO) of Balsaore Dr Gopinath Parida on Wednesday asked health officers to probe the incident after the family alleged foul play. Those responsible for the erroneous ultrasound results will face strict consequences, he added.
Kanhu Charan Pal, the woman’s husband from Makidia village under Raibania police jurisdiction, told the media that an ultrasound at a private nursing home in Balasore town confirmed twins. Another scan at the DHH before delivery on Tuesday also showed two foetuses. However, post-delivery, doctors informed Pal that only one baby was born. Following which, the family members created a ruckus on the hospital premises, demanding information about the other expected baby.
