Sambalpur: In the wake of the death of the Sambalpuri album artist Simran Singh, the Burla police on Thursday put up latka (notice) at the house of the husband of the deceased at Belapada village in Balangir district.

According to sources, a team of Burla police went to the house of Simran’s husband Dhrubaraj Suna aka Yug and put up the latka on not finding his mother.

Police later went to the house of the brother-in-law of the deceased and handed over the notice to his wife in his absence.

Initially, Burla Police had registered an unnatural death (UD) case after the recovery of the body of the album actress under the Mahandi bridge in Sambalpur on January 3. After a voice message of the deceased went viral, her family members lodged a complaint with the police, alleging that she was killed by her husband and in-laws.

On the basis of the complaint, Burla Police later converted the UD case to a murder case and served a notice, asking them to appear before the police by January 16. Since they did not turn up for questioning, police put up the latka at their house.

Sources said that the absconding in-law members, fearing arrest by the police, have decided to move court for anticipatory bail.

As informed by the Sambalpur SP Sanjeev Arora, Dhrubaraj, who is currently lodged in Jharsuguda jail, will be taken on remand for further interrogation. Police will soon seek permission from the court in this connection. Some persons, whose complicity in the case has been found, are also being interrogated.

The SP further said that investigation is underway on the basis of the postmortem report while a special team is examining the footage of the CCTV cameras at the Sambalpur railway station and checking the call records.

The Jharsuguda police had arrested Yug on January 5 after he was detained by Belpada police in Balangir the previous day for interrogation. He was booked under POCSO Act. During the interrogation, Yug told the police that they had tied the knot in April last year against their parents’ consent. He, however, denied his involvement in her death.

The album artist was found dead under the Mahanadi bridge near Goira on the outskirts of Sambalpur city on January 3. There were injury marks on her body and her family claimed that she was murdered and the body later dumped near the bridge.
