It has covered entire Malkangiri & Koraput districts and some parts of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada and Gajapati districts, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD)

In 2024, the monsoon had hit Odisha four days ahead of its schedule, and covered parts of Malkangiri district.

On Tuesday, the national forecaster informed that Odisha is set to experience above-average rainfall during the upcoming monsoon season from June to September.

Director of the Bhubaneswar met centre Manorama Mohanty stated that Odisha is expected to see rainfall at 106% of the long-period average (LPA). The state has already received 59% above-normal rainfall in the pre-monsoon period from March to May, recording 188.9 mm compared to the average of 119.1 mm.

According to the IMD, the country to see about 92 cm rainfall (106% of the long period average) during this southwest monsoon season, slightly higher than the 91.3 cm (105% of the average) rainfall that it had forecast in April. Except northeast and northwestern parts of the country, most of India will receive ‘above normal’ rainfall.

In June alone, the country is likely to receive at least 8% more than its average quota of 16.7 cm. “During June, most of the country is expected to receive ‘above normal’ (more than 108% of LPA) rainfall. However, some southern parts of peninsular India and parts of northwest and northeast India may receive below-normal rain,” said M Ravichandran, secretary in the ministry of earth sciences, while releasing the monsoon update
