Bhubaneswar: The low-pressure area over Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast became well marked over the same region on Wednesday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
It is likely to move slowly northwards and concentrate into a Depression during the next 24 hours.
Scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph may occur in Odisha during May 28-31. Isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph and thundersquall wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph is also likely during May 28-29.. Isolated heavy rainfall may occur during May 28-31. Isolated very heavy rainfall is also likely on May 29, it added.
Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) of SOA Deemed to be University here had earlier said that sixteen districts in Odisha are likely to experience intense spells of rain from May 28-30 under the influence of the system. These districts are Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Khurda, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Nayagarh and Ganjam.

There is also a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the catchment region of Baitarani, Subarnarekha and Budhabalang rivers, the bulletin said adding that widespread rain might favour onset of the southwest monsoon over Odisha by Thursday.
