Bhubaneswar: Hans Daruka of KiiT International School in Bhubaneswar has topped the JEE (Advanced) 2025 exam, results of which were announced on Monday, in Odisha.

The city boy achieved an all-India rank of 39, and ranked second in the IIT Kharagpur zone, scoring 300 out of 360, while Devdutta Majhi, the top female candidate, took first place in the zone. Hans credited his focus on mathematics for his success after an all-India rank of 228 in JEE (Main). “I wasn’t discouraged by my JEE (Main) rank of 228. I concentrated on my studies for JEE (Advanced), diligently following my teachers’ advice and attending classes regularly to grasp concepts,” he told TOI.

The 17-year-old never skipped class tests, analysed subjects thoroughly, completed daily homework, and made time for self-study. He excelled in physics and chemistry but devoted extra effort to mathematics. He prioritised easier questions before tackling tougher ones in the exam. “I stayed off social media during preparation, using the internet only for online classes or note-taking. I occasionally called friends to clarify doubts but avoided wasting time online,” he was quoted as saying by the national daily.

Son of a chartered accountant father and a homemaker mother, Hans aspires to study computer science at IIT Bombay and work in artificial intelligence. He expressed gratitude to his parents, particularly his mother for guiding his studies, and his teachers for their support in achieving high marks.

Other students of the school, who have qualified for admission in IITs, include Samman Poddar, Shreyas Samantaray, Swayam Krishna Manohari, Aditya Nayak, Krishnansu Mohanty, Rashmi Ranjan Basita, Amrutanshu Dash, Prabhudutta Prusti, Sai Sarvesh Thatoi, Rigved Sai Maharathi, Satwik Mishra, and Harshvardhan Singh Sidar.
