Malkangiri: A youth drowned while two women had a narrow escape after a country boat capsized in Balimela reservoir in Odisha’s Malkangiri district.
As per information, the mishap took place during nor’wester on Friday evening near Swabhiman Anchal’s Orapadar ghat in the district’s Chitrakonda block.
The victim who drowned was identified as Shanka Palasi of Bataguda village under Nakamamudi panchayat in the district. He was reportedly operating as boatman when the mishap took place. His body was reportedly fished out of the reservoir on Saturday.
Sources said the boat with Sanka and two women on board overturned following a sudden gush of strong wind. Locals swiftly rushed to help them and managed to rescue the two women. However, Shanka remained untraceable and the rescue operation was halted due to darkness.
Fire services and police personnel resumed their search and rescue operation in the morning and fished out the bod, sources said.
