Dehradun: A private helicopter carrying six pilgrims crash-landed on the Guptkashi-Gaurikund highway near Barasu in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district on Saturday afternoon.
Fortunately, all everyone on board the chopper is safe. The pilot sustained minor injuries.
The helicopter, which had taken off from Barasu en route to the Kedarnath shrine, was forced to make an emergency landing on the highway because of a technical glitch around 1 pm, Rudraprayag district tourism officer Rahul Chaubey informed.

“The chopper was carrying six people, including the pilot. All passengers are safe. The pilot suffered minor injuries, including compression on his back, and has been taken to the hospital for treatment,” added Chaubey, who is also the nodal officer for helicopter services.
The helicopter’s tail broke after it collided with a car parked on the roadside.
Efforts are underway to remove the damaged chopper from the road as soon as possible to restore smooth and normal traffic flow.
Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) CEO Sonika said that the Directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) has been informed about the incident. She informed that the rest of the helicopter shuttle operations continued as per schedule.
This is the fourth mishap involving a chopper in a month.
On May 8, six people were killed after a helicopter en route to Gangotri crashed in the Gangnani area of Uttarkashi district.
On May 17, a helicopter-ambulance that had gone from AIIMS-Rishikesh to airlift a person suffering from respiratory distress at the Kedarnath shrine, crashlanded near the Kedarnath helipad. All four persons on board were safe.
On May 12, the blade of a helicopter struck a vehicle at Badrinath helipad, narrowly avoiding a major accident.
