Moscow: Though Donald Trump had been mulling military action against Iran amidst Israel’s offensive, the world was surprised by America’s airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in the early hours of June 23.
Stung by the devastating attack, which the US claimed had obliterated three of the top nuclear facilities, Iran condemned the airstrikes as “outrageous”, with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi warning that the action would have “everlasting consequences.”
Iran have started planning their response, turning to their “friend” Russia for starters.
Araghchi announced on Sunday that he will be travelling to Moscow for high-level talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Russia is a friend of Iran, we always consult with each other. I’m going to Moscow this afternoon for serious consultations with the Russian president tomorrow morning,” the Iranian Foreign minister said at a press conference on the sidelines of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit in Istanbul.
Even former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has said that a number of countries are prepared to supply Iran with nuclear warheads.
Slamming Operation Midnight Hammer, Medvedev said in a series of posts on X that the American operation targeting sites in Isfahan, Natanz and Fordow had not only failed to achieve its objective but had, in fact, produced the opposite result.
“What have the Americans accomplished with their nighttime strikes on three nuclear sites in Iran?” Medvedev asked.
He claimed that the “critical infrastructure of the nuclear fuel cycle appears to have been unaffected or sustained only minor damage,” and significantly, went on to add that “enrichment of nuclear material – and, now we can say it outright, the future production of nuclear weapons – will continue.”
Medvedev, who is Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, further stated, “A number of countries are ready to directly supply Iran with their own nuclear warheads,” without naming them.
“Iran’s political regime has survived – and in all likelihood, has come out even stronger. The people are rallying around the country’s spiritual leadership, including those who were previously indifferent or opposed to it,” Medvedev wrote.
Medvedev ridiculed President Donald Trump.
“Trump, once hailed as ‘president of peace,’ has now pushed the US into another war. At this rate, Trump can forget about the Nobel Peace Prize – not even with how rigged it has become. What a way to kick things off, Mr President. Congratulations!”
