Mumbai: On their first wedding anniversary on June 23, Sonakshi Sinha revealed that screen husband Salman Khan (in ‘Dabangg’) played an important role in bringing her and Zaheer Iqbal together.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Sonakshi shared that she met Zaheer for the first time at a party hosted by Salman.
Describing Salman as a “sutradhar”, the actress said, “He was obviously very happy (about our wedding). He is very fond of both of us. It was because of him that we met, so credit where it’s due.”
Sonakshi and Zaheer fell for each other after their first meeting.
Recalling the day when Zaheer proposed her, during their Finland trip, Sonakshi said, “It was beautiful, under the Northern Lights and all. It was surreal! It was like a picture perfect moment of which I don’t have any pictures. I’m telling you it’s so clear in my head, it was beautiful.”
“I had no idea. Like I literally had no idea. I just thought we were going for our annual holiday and I had no idea. He had taken permission from my parents before we went and he popped the question over there. I was like ‘what!’ I thought he was joking first, I actually thought he was joking because you know Zaheer right? So I was like ‘are you joking with me right now?’ And he was like ‘no’ and he said something very sweet and it was just a beautiful one. And the light in the sky, it was something else. The aurora had burst, it was green and like just so bright and beautiful. It was stunning,” he added.
The couple dated for 8 years before tying the knot on June 23 last year.
It was an intimate wedding at Sonakshi’s Mumbai residence, followed by a star-studded grand reception with Salman, Rekha, Kajol, Tabu, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Honey Singh, and Huma Qureshi and others on the guest list.

On the work front, Sonakshi will next be seen in a supernatural drama, directed by her brother Kussh S Sinha.
The film, which also features Arjun Rampal and Paresh Rawal, is slated to be released on June 27.
