Dhenkanal: Tragedy occurred during a marriage procession as one person died and five others sustained grievous injuries after a vehicle with DJ music system touched an overhead electric wire at a village in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.
As per preliminary information, the incident took place at Kuangasahi under the jurisdiction of Tumusingha police station on Saturday night.
Locals said members of the wedding procession were dancing to DJ music when the vehicle carrying the sound system reportedly came in contact with an overhead electric wire.
As a result, at least six persons suffered immediate electric shock and some of them collapsed at the spot. They were initially taken to the nearby community health centre (CHC) at Anlabereni. One of them was later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) at Dhenkanal, where doctors declared him dead.
The five are undergoing treatment at the hospital and their condition was stated to be critical.
An investigation has been launched into the incident. Preliminary reports suggest that poor handling of electrical safety near public utilities might have led to the tragedy.
