Baripada: In a shocking incident, a man in an inebriated state allegedly killed his elderly parents with a hammer at Dhanapal village under Baisinga area in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Wednesday.
As per preliminary information, accused Himanshu Sahu, an auto-rickshaw driver, lived with his 85-year-old father Hadibandhu Sahu and 78-year-old mother Shantilata.
Because of some family issues, his wife and children had been staying separately for quite some time.
The gruesome incident came to light after some villagers first spotted the body of the woman lying in a pool of blood in front of their house in the morning.
However, the accused was seen sitting calmly on a cot nearby, raising suspicion among the locals. They immediately informed the police.
A police team rushed to the spot and took Himanshu into custody. The bodies of his parents wre recovered and sent for postmortem.
Preliminary investigation indicated that he killed his parents by repeatedly hitting them with a hammer in a fit of rage while being in an inebriated state.
