Anganwadi workers seek govt employee tag
Cuttack: Hundreds of Anganwadi workers on Tuesday staged a demonstration in front of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation protesting against the state government’s alleged apathetic attitude towards their issues.
“Our job entails providing nutrition to children, pregnant and lactating mothers. We also take the responsibility of education of pre-school children aged between three and six years,” one of the protestors said, adding, “But the state government has turned a deaf ear towards our long-standing demands to increase minimum monthly wages from Rs 4,000 to at least Rs 18,000 per month and to provide government employee status to us. Hence, the association has decided to intensify our agitation, if our issues are not resolved with immediate effect,”.
The Anganwadi workers were protesting under the banner of All Odisha Anganwadi Ladies Workers’ Association.
