Rourkela: A 38-year-old bank employee died while his wife and their 8-year-old son sustained critical injuries when their car fell 25 feet off a bridge in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
The deceased has been identified as Amit Prasad, originally from Bihar and working at a public sector bank in Balangir.
According to sources, the accident took place near Kundukela at around 8.30 am on Friday when the family were travelling to their native place in Bihar. The car overturned in the water after the fall.
Police, quoting Amit’s wife, said that another vehicle rammed into their car and he failed to control the vehicle as the brakes failed, leading to the plunge.
Locals alerted Bhasma police, who then rescued the family from the wreckage. Amit died while being taken to Sundargarh Govt Medical College & Hospital. His wife and son are under treatment at Sundargarh district headquarters hospital.
Meanwhile, Bhasma police, led by ASI Sabitri Pradhan, are investigating the incident.
