Sambalpur: Two students of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Odisha’s Sambalpur district reportedly drowned to death during a recreational trip to Deojharan waterfall on Saturday.
As per preliminary information, six medical students of VIMSAR visited Deojharan waterfall, a popular tourist destination in Jujumura block of Sambalpur district around noon.
While enjoying the scenic beauty, two of them including a female student accidentally slipped into the water and got swept away by the strong current.
After getting information about the incident, Fire service personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the two students in a highly critical condition, and immediate efforts were made to provide medical attention. However, the two breathed their last during treatment, sources said.
While their identities have not yet been officially disclosed, the deceased male student hailed from Delhi and the female student was from Rajasthan.
After receiving information, the Superintendent and Dean of Burla Medical College rushed to the spot and are closely monitoring the situation. Further details are awaited.
Local authorities have urged tourists to exercise caution when visiting natural sites during the monsoon, especially in areas prone to strong currents and slippery surfaces.
