New Delhi: Five days after Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan Krishan Kumar was shot dead outside his home in Haryana’s Sonipat, three accused in the killing were arrested on Saturday.
The brutal attack took place days after Krishan was involved in a brawl with a few men from his village during the Kanwar Yatra in Haridwar.
“During the Kanwar Yatra, some youths of the village got into an altercation with him (Kishan) a few days ago. They have been identified,” PTI quoted Inspector Lal Singh as saying.
Krishan, who was posted in Chhattisgarh, returned home from Bhagat Phool Singh Medical College for Women at Khanpur Kalan, where his wife had delivered a baby boy, police said.
“Some people from the village called him outside his home and opened fire at him when he came out… He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead,” Sonepat police spokesman Ravinder Singh said.
Krishan’s relatives told police they suspected the involvement of three kanwariyas from the village – main accused Nishant and Ajay, as well as Anand. But they are still on the run.
A conspiracy to kill Krishan was allegedly hatched before he left for the pilgrimage to Haridwar. The accused had also planned to kill another man, Anand alias Pahiya, police told India Today TV.
A car belonging to a man called Sagar was used in the murder. Ajay and Nishant travelled to the village in Sagar’s car, and shot at Krishan.
Police have arrested the car driver Sagar, Praveen alias Mendhak and Mohit.
