Puri: Days after terror threat messages appeared near Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri, a man reportedly attempted to scale the 12th-century shrine on Saturday, sparking concern over the security measures.
As per preliminary information, the man was caught by the Jagannath Temple Police (JTP) and servitors when he had already climbed a few feet of the structure. The accused has been identified as Pancham Mahot from Ranchi area of Jharkhand.
The man allegedly climbed approximately five feet from the Beharan gate when he was apprehended by the temple police. A senior police official said the man appeared to be mentally unstable.
The accused is now in custody at Singhadwara Police Station for interrogation. Investigation is underway to ascertain the exact motive behind the step taken by him.
The incident comes close on the heels of an attempt made by an individual from Ganjam to scale the temple walls, raising serious concerns about the temple’s safety arrangements. Repeated incidents have sparked questions about whether current security measures are adequate, prompting authorities to review and enhance vigilance protocols.
Notably, graffiti mentioning about terror threat to the temple appeared at two locations on the wall of the Budhi Maa Thakurani temple.
