Keonjhar: The district collector on Friday suspended headmaster of a school where a girl was left locked all night with her head stuck in a window grill of a classroom.
The child, identified as Jyotsna Dehuri, got accidentally locked inside her classroom at Anjara Government Upper Primary School in Bansapal block of Odisha’s Keonjhar district last evening and the desperate bid to escape thereafter left her stuck in a window grill.
Meanwhile, the girl’s parents, who are daily wage labourers, found her missing when they returned home at 9 pm and made all efforts to trace her but in vain.
This morning, they got the keys from the school cook and found her writhing in pain while clinging to the iron railing of the classroom window with her legs outside but her head still stuck inside. She was then freed from the window after much effort and rushed to Keonjhar district headquarters hospital.
A disturbing video of the incident has also surfaced.
The School and Mass Education Department has confirmed the child is safe and recovering.
The incident sparked widespread anger among locals, who demanded strict action against the negligent teachers. It is being said that some Class VIII school children were told to lock the school at 4 pm.
