Bhubaneswar: A day after a footballer died while playing a match in Deogarh district, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs four lakh to his family.
Majhi announced the assistance from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to the family of the deceased player, Prakash Nayak, who tragically died while playing a Councillor Cup Tournament match at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Deogarh on Sunday.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister’s Office conveyed the CM’s deep condolences over the untimely demise of Nayak, who suddenly collapsed during the match held at IG Stadium in Suliapada.
The statement further confirmed that the Chief Minister has sanctioned the financial assistance to support the next of kin of the deceased.
Notably, Prakash Nayak was representing Deogarh Municipality Ward No. 2 in a match against Ward No. 7 when he suddenly fell ill and collapsed on the field. He was rushed to the Deogarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), where doctors declared him dead.
