Bhubaneswar: All government-run and aided schools as well as colleges and universities across the Odisha will remain closed on August 29 on account of Nuakhai festival.
Official sources said that the state government has declared August 29 a holiday in all higher education institutions and schools across the state. The decision was announced through official letters sent to universities, colleges, and district education officers.
The Higher Education Department has informed all universities and colleges functioning under the institutions will remain closed on August 29 in observance of Nuakhai.
This apart, the department has also revised the academic calendar, allowing institutions to declare only one local holiday for the calendar year 2025, unlike the previous provision of two local holidays.
Similarly, the School and Mass Education Department has announced a holiday on August 29 for all government and government-aided schools in the state, replacing a previously scheduled local holiday.
Notably, the agrarian festival falls on August 28 and it is already included in the state’s official holiday list. All government offices and magisterial courts across Odisha will now remain closed also on August 29, according to the official notification issued by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department.
