Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorm activity may continue in Odisha for three days with the low pressure area having moved over to central parts of Chhattisgarh & neighbourhood, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Thursday.
The well-marked low pressure area over south coastal Odisha moved slowly west-northwestwards and weakened into a low pressure area over South Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh at 5.30 am. The system then moved west-northwestwards over central parts of Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood.
However, squally weather with wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph may prevail along & off Odisha coasts,West central and North Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours when sea condition is likely to be moderate to rough. Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea in these regions during this period.
The weather agency has issued an yellow warning of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts on August 28.
Similar weather condition may prevail at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati on August 29.
On August 30, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati on August 30.
Some places in the state may witness heavy rain during the subsequent 4 days.
The IMD has warned of heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph one or two places in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj on August 31, and Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh on September 1.
Thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts on these two days.
Heavy rain may continue to lash Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh on September 2 and September 3.
